What you need to do to keep eShare and eBrowser working in your browser after 15 June

As you probably know, Internet Explorer will no longer be supported as an independent application after 15 June. It’s not the end of the world, you will still be able to use eBrowser and eShare in Microsoft Edge in IE mode after 15 June by following the instructions on this page. If you only use these products via desktop applications, you don’t have to do anything, they will work as before.

The best way to run eShare and eBrowser in Microsoft Edge is to use group policies to configure pages to open in IE Mode by default. We strongly suggest using this option. Alternatively, IE mode can also be enabled manually.

Using group policies to automatically open eShare in IE Mode

Microsoft Edge can be configured to open certain web pages in IE Mode. This configuration is usually done using company-wide group policies defining a list of addresses that should be automatically opened in IE Mode when they are navigated to in Edge.

If an Edge to IE mode redirection list is already in use by your IT department, they should consider adding eShare’s (or web page that embeds eBrowser) addresses to that list. More information about Microsoft Edge and configurable sites in IE mode can be found here.

If your organization’s group policies prevent the use of Edge in IE mode or defines a list of pages where IE mode is enforced, your IT department will need to ensure that group policies support IE mode use for eShare/eBrowser.

Edge’s group policy related documentation can be found here. Microsoft’s recommendations when moving to use Edge is described in a technical article here.

Please do not hesitate to contact us via the support portal if you have any difficulties in using eShare and eBrowser in IE mode.

How to enable IE mode in Edge manually

1. If your group policy does not prohibit IE mode, open Edge and go to Settings > Default browser and set Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode to Allow.

2. Select Restart to restart the browser for the new settings to take effect.

3. After restart, select the tab that has the eShare (or eBrowser ActiveX) address open, click the three dots on the top right and select Reload in Internet Explorer mode. The browser will reload and allow you to operate eShare/eBrowser in the browser like before.
