Gondan's first CADMATIC project launched

Posted on October 17, 2018

VILJA, the most powerful icebreaking escort tug of its size in the world with hybrid/electrical propulsion, was designed with CADMATIC Marine Software and launched on October 8th at GONDAN Shipyard in Figueras, Spain.

After more than 20 years of using other design software, Gondan decided to purchase CADMATIC in May 2017. Since then, the number of CADMATIC Marine Design licenses at the company has increased significantly. The launch of the icebreaking escort tug is the first project that was completely done by Gondan with CADMATIC software.

GONDAN Shipbuilders used CADMATIC for the detail and production design of the tug. The 36m tug is a RAL TundRA 3600-H class icebreaking design fully customized for the Port of Luleå’s (Sweden) operational requirements. The vessel is designed to perform icebreaking – it is capable of breaking 1-meter-thick ice at a speed of up to 3 knots, ice management, escorting, ship-assists, coastal towing, firefighting and navigation aid service duties.
