Supported Software systems and file formats

Smooth cooperation, integration, and interfacing with other technology suppliers and software systems.

Documents for construction can be output in the most common formats, such as DWG and PDF, and delivered in the required manner. Various eXchangers allow data exchange between different software programs with options to include meta-data or to be used as reference models only. The list below provides information on supported software systems and file formats, with additional details about the level of interoperability in each specific case.

  • Autodesk (Download eXchanger for Autocad)

    Autocad

2D documents can be directly imported/exported to/from the design applications with inbuilt converters. For importing/exporting 3D you need to install AutoCAD ARX plugin by CADMATIC called “eXchanger for AutoCAD”. It is also possible to use AutoCAD as a bridge between CADMATIC and other 3D CAD for 3D import/export.

The eXchanger can be downloaded for free from our download page. You need to register first, before you are forwarded to the download page.

    EdgeWise

Take advantage of two superior software solutions.

The plug-in developed especially for seamless collaboration between EdgeWise and CADMATIC 3D design solutions. All disciplines (piping, structural, background) can be transferred as a native model into CADMATIC. MTO’s and isometric drawings are available from piping, and structural objects can be modified or even transferred to structural packages like Tekla, in case needed. Equipment is intelligent, including connection points to piping.

This interface is a game changer for anyone who needs to quickly and reliably convert the physical asset into a 3D model, and later to digital twin. Taking advantage of the EdgeWise - CADMATIC plug-in does not require any additional licenses.

    Key benefits of collaboration

    • Transfer any discipline as a native model from EdgeWise into CADMATIC
    • Speed up projects by reducing tedious manual modelling
    • Strong support and in time savings in big process industry projects, like pulp and paper.

File formats

  • .3dd, *.3dc, *.3dp

CADMATIC formats for 3D reference data, these are intermediate formats for eXchangers and can include object attributes

  • *.asc, *.pts,*. xyz Point Clouds

Point clouds can be imported to CADMATIC from several different file formats. The user can select one or multiple files for the import. ASCII text files can be imported from various point cloud data sources. The importer attempts to automatically detect the data format and scale. Before the import starts, the scale and data from an example input line are shown. The user can modify the scale, and also rearrange the positions for coordinate and color data as seen in the file. Import requires at least X, Y and Z values to be defined.

A separate text file named ScanPositions.txt should exist where each line gives the name of a scanner file, followed by the position of the scanner as x y z. If this file doesn’t exist, bubble views that show the points from the perspective of a specific scanner will not be possible, but other types of shaded views can still be used.

  • *.cii

Support for generating files from CADMATIC format pipes to be imported into Caesar II for stress analysis purposes.

  • *.dgn

2D documents can be exported directly to DGN format. 3D models can be converted using CADMATIC eXchanger for PDMS/PDS.

  • *.dwg/*.dxf

As such, work can be started with a preliminary model in one software platform, after which it is enhanced with more detailed design in another. Current format supported: IFC2x3

  • *.jt

JT is an ISO-standardized 3D data format used in industry for product visualization, collaboration, CAD data exchange, and in some also for long-term data retention.
