Electrical design in installation drawings

Electrical design in installation drawings and centre schemas. Manage the information on switchboards and groups and their electrotechnical calculations, and draw system-specific points and wirings. Manage elevations and product information. Design the lighting by using a two-way DIALux link. Generate project-specific reports.

With CADMATIC Electrical, you can work on both large sites and small renovations sensibly and efficiently. The versatile drawing and editing functions of the software as well as the extensively developed database-based architecture make for a clear and smooth design workflow.

  • 1. Managing switchboards and groups

Create or edit switchboards and groups in group management, an installation drawing or centre schema, or the project tree. You only need to edit the information in one place, after which the software updates all occurrences of that object throughout the whole project. You can also use centre schemas, main line diagrams or other project information from old projects as the initial material. Truly two-way!

With CADMATIC Electrical’s Distribution Board application, you can create the switchboards’ main schemas and the related cover pages efficiently and without errors. There are plenty of auxiliary functions and an extensive symbol library for completing and editing centre schemas.

In the project tree, you can see all of the project’s switchboards and groups in the same place. You can easily stay on track about what goes or should go where. The most commonly used functions and navigation tools have been added to the project tree.

You can use the Excel interface for purposes such as mass editing; for example, you can change all switchboard IDs in the project in one go. In group management, you can arrange groups as needed and check that groups have occurrences both in the centre schema and the installation drawings. The changes are automatically updated to all drawings in the project – of course!

  • 2. Wiring and electrotechnical calculations

Versatile wiring functions and a cable database with information on thousands of cables make wiring design easier. The analyses are already an everyday task. CADMATIC Electrical brings time savings and accuracy to calculations!

CADMATIC Electrical simulates the wiring of the whole project and automatically calculates the group lengths, short-circuit currents, outputs and voltage drops. The software takes all risers and branches between different floors into account. CADMATIC Electrical also analyses the project and carries out an electrotechnical check, and notifies the user if a cable length, short-circuit current or voltage drop exceeds the limitations.

  • 3. Versatile features for cable raceways

You can draw and edit cable raceways in a variety of ways in both 2D and 3D views. All cable raceways are drawn and edited using a single tool, which means that all options related to cable raceways can be seen and edited at a glance. The built-in real-time collision detection ensures that collisions with the other systems are already prevented during the drawing phase, which speeds up the design process and improves the quality.

With dynamic features, you can edit either the whole cable raceway network or its individual parts and sections concerning information such as the type of cable raceway, its size, elevation, raster and product information. You can also use it in space reservation models. For example, you can make the space reservations in the model at the start of the project and change them into the desired cable raceways later.

With the innovative elevation management, you can get information about the elevations from the designs of other designers, which you can then use in placing or editing devices, equipment or cable raceways in 3D mode.

  • 4. Designing telecommunications and security systems

In addition to the extensive symbol libraries, you can take advantage of functions in order to generate device IDs automatically, for example. You can also automatically generate fire detector schemas (‘loop schemas’), for example, based on the installation drawing. Thanks to the centralised data management and product model technology, editing an ID or a symbol in the installation drawing also updates the device occurrences in the system diagram, and vice versa.

Circle or sector functions can also be used for quality assurance; they define the detection zones of devices such as fire detectors or infrared detectors, or the surveillance sector of a surveillance camera, for example.

  • 5. DIALux link connects lighting calculations and CADMATIC Electrical

The two-way link between CADMATIC Electrical and DIALux allows you to manage the whole lighting design process efficiently.

For a long time, we have wanted to develop CADMATIC Electrical into a designer’s workbench, and we aim to integrate software important to designers with CADMATIC Electrical. Integrations speed up the transfer of information and improve its accuracy. The two-way link between CADMATIC Electrical and DIALux allows you to manage the whole lighting design process efficiently. You can easily import the required areas from the architect’s IFC model with CADMATIC Electrical and transfer them into the DIALux lighting calculation program. You can also define areas quickly and easily in CADMATIC Electrical.

You can import luminaire locations and elevations, product information, technical information, output, spaces, 3D space reservation models and light distribution curves from DIALux to CADMATIC Electrical as product models. The information can be used with the other functions of the software, such as product models, 3D generation and calculation of outputs and voltage drops, as well as luminaire lists.

  • 6. Handle project information with product models

Control the symbols and models (2D/3D) of devices in different CADMATIC Electrical applications, as well as their technical information, product information and other additional information.

The specifications are used by different functions, such as electrotechnical calculations, reports, 3D and BIM as well as other auxiliary functions. You can include the desired additional information in the product model, and it can be attached to reports and transferred to the BIM model. You can make efficient and centralised changes to the information related to a product or device in the project by using product models. You can also add product information found in the device manufacturers’ databases or the Finnish sähkönumero.fi product data service. The databases are delivered with CADMATIC Electrical.

The occurrences and real-time quantities of product models in the whole project are managed in CADMATIC Electrical’s project tree. You can also edit product models via the project tree, and, thanks to centralised data management, you can update all occurrences of devices automatically, if necessary.

  • 7. Generate reports and lists

Generate the lists you need automatically from the project database, such as luminaire, device, heater, cable and quantity lists (number of items and metres).

The software has standard report templates available. You can also edit report templates yourself, or create completely new reports. You can specify the information you want on the report yourself. You can add unlimited additional information to a CADMATIC Electrical project and get all information automatically in the reports. You can also generate basic reports in drawing format, such as cable connection drawings.

Format Excel and PDF reports to suit your needs. You can organise and structure the reports according to the desired information. If necessary, you can export the information on quantities to tender calculation software or other types of software.
