15/02/2006 - Mondi Group uses Cadmatic in major conversion projects in South Africaback to news

Mondi Business Paper Group, incorporating Mondi South Africa, is a leading producer of cut size paper serving markets on five continents. The Group has undertaken several significant capital projects over the past few years in South Africa. Jaakko Pöyry has been serving the Mondi Group for more than twenty years and has used Cadmatic software to accomplish its most recent projects. It did the entire mechanical and piping engineering for rebuilding of the PM32 paper machine at Mondi Merebank Mill on 2002. It was the first project for Jaakko Pöyry's office in South Africa in which they used Cadmatic. The project was large and included some 276 pipeline isometrics and 425 pipe supports.

After this project, Jaakko Pöyry Southern Africa and the Helsinki office commenced with a major project for Mondi Business Papers at their pulp mill in Richards Bay in 2003. The Mill started up on time and has reached its planned capacity. The third large Cadmatic project was PM31 UWF conversion for Mondi Business Papers at Merebank. Jaakko Pöyry's task included the entire mechanical, piping and detailed engineering. A laser scanning of the buildings, machinery, equipment, and piping was done for all these projects for Mondi. The laser scan point cloud was then converted into 3D Cadmatic plant model after which the new design and engineering work commenced. Jaakko Pöyry's representatives stated that Cadmatic forms an integral part of Jaakko Pöyry's Virtual Mill concept and its features also efficient project implementation. This includes both engineering and construction phases, where the 3D model and its good eBrowser capabilities are moved to the site to assist construction and commissioning teams. Once the plant is commissioned, the model can further be used for maintenance purposes as well as future upgrades in order to keep the model up to date.

Furthermore, Jaakko Pöyry Southern Africa's representatives emphasized that they are really using Cadmatic to the fullest extent as the software suits very well their needs. Especially Cadmatic's ease of use gained praise as only two weeks training was needed for users to learn the program and after that they successfully started up with their first Cadmatic project. After the first training phase, Jaakko Pöyry Southern Africa hasn't needed any special training and manage well with the help of Cadmatic's Customer Support which is graded to be excellent. They also value the flexibility of Cadmatic software as it is possible for customers to customize Cadmatic modules to some extent. Also Mondi has now adopted Cadmatic eBrowser concept and thus communication and follow-up of the work is much easier for both of the parties.
