15/02/2006 - M-real's new bleached CTMP pulp plant in Kaskinen designed with Cadmaticback to news

M-real has used Cadmatic as its design tool in all of its large investments since 1994 and also chose Cadmatic as the principal software used in design of its new bleached CTMP pulp plant in Kaskinen, Finland. M-real is one of Europe's leading suppliers of paperboard and related services, coated and uncoated fine paper and coated magazine paper. The new Kaskinen plant will process 800.000 cubic meter of both softwood and hardwood per year.

M-real required that their suppliers used either Cadmatic or other software compatible with Cadmatic in this project. SWECO PIC and JP-Kakko therefore designed the entire plant with Cadmatic. It was emphasized by M-real that the exact Cadmatic 3D model of the plant is crucial for the project management team. By using Cadmatic's Internet-based eBrowser, the team has a continuous access to the updated 3D plant model and its documentation for managing and followup of the project design, and for planning the actual construction. Thus, eBrowser was in daily use by the project management team and equipment suppliers, for example. In addition, two-dimensional Cadmatic drawings were also necessary when constructing the plant. All the drawings are distributed electronically and 3D data is utilized very effectively. M-real uses SAP and will link the 'as built' 3D-model of the Kaskinen CTMP plant with SAP plant maintenance system.

SWECO PIC has been the main project management and design service consultant in the project. It has used Cadmatic since 2000 and many of their clients are also Cadmatic-users. During this project about 30 designers have been using Cadmatic at several SWECO PIC's offices. Cadmatic was used in all mechanical plant design tasks. These include equipment and layout design, design of piping and ducts, and steel design from maintenance platforms to steel structures. The structural design, including concrete and steel design, was done by JP-Kakko Oy by using the Tekla Structures design software, from which the 3D data was transferred to Cadmatic.
