As the claims for more effective productivity in investment projects and maintenance activity increase also the design systems are facing new challenges. About 60-95 % of the costs of a plant investment project are decided already in the design and engineering phase, and therefore the requirements of a faster, better and more accurate design are growing all the time. It is also the reason why the 3D modelling has become the main design method both in new plant investments and in rebuilding projects.

CADMATIC has released the new version 4.1 of it's 3D plant design software. The new version supports decentralised work in a network environment and to encourage prefabrication thinking. Also the data management in connection to the design and engineering is more effective and integrated in all phases of the project. In addition it's now possible to use design and engineering material as a part of the maintenance and document management system of the plant.
In the 3D plant design the CADMATIC software utilises the process data entered to the process diagram, the high quality drawings and material lists are generated automatically from the 3D model for building and procurement. The visualisation possibilities and plant information in the database are utilised both in the design, building and start-up phases of the plant. In the maintenance phase the 3D model with its databases is attached to the maintenance and document management system of the plant, which means that the technical plant design and engineering information will be stored in the 3D model instead of separate drawings and material lists. It reduces the amount of documents to be filed and updated essentially and so ensures easy access to the data. Through the 3D model the plant information is easy to use and available for everybody. Therefore the CADMATIC 3D Plant Design Software has now been linked to such maintenance systems as IFS, SAP R/3 and CADMATIC's own Maintenance software.
