CADMATIC opens a new 3D design laboratory in St. Petersburg

On April 13th consul-general of Netherlands in St. Petersburg Hans Wesseling took part at the opening of the laboratory on 3D design. The laboratory is a cooperation program between CADMATIC and Makarov Shipping University.

On 13th April, CADMATIC celebrated the opening of the Ship and Plant Industry Design Laboratory with Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping in St. Petersburg. This is the 5th 3D design laboratory CADMATIC has been opened in Russia. Consul-general of the Netherlands in St. Petersburg Mr. Hans Wesseling, and representatives of the Finish and Dutch CADMATIC offices participated in the event, which was hosted by the rector and professors of the Admiral Makarov University.


The two-sided contract of establishing the new laboratory was signed during the ceremony between Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping and CADMATIC Netherlands. This contact has resulted in the next step in capacity building in domestic marine engineering pursued by the university, CADMATIC and their partners, including the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, Petrobalt Co. Ltd., as well as other Russian maritime and technical Universities and shipyards. The laboratory aims to support the university in modernizing its educational programmes based on new technologies and western experience. The first users of the Laboratory of Ship and Plant Industry Design will be professors and post-graduate students who will be retrained g and gain applicable skills in addition to their theoretical knowledge. After the teachers are fully capable of understanding the software application, they will be able to give practical lessons to the students and provide additional training to CADMATIC software users, such as design offices and shipyards in Russia.


The industry need for a general tool to provide educational programmes with modern shipbuilding industry processes initiated the idea of creating the laboratory. Compared with other software on the market, CADMATIC was the best choice for the University, which represents modern, fast and cutting-edge technologies.

 The ship and plant industry design students and teachers have been very pleased to transform their ideas into reality. Experience shows that CADMATIC is very useful for educational processes and related research activities. Students not only learn how to use the software, but they also work practically in 3D thinking, as well as construction-, plant industry-, equipment- and vessel system engineering.
